A spontaneous strike has disrupted 16 bus routes of the Flemish transport company, De Lijn, in the region of Saint-Trond and South Limburg, on Friday.

The walkout is a response to an assault on a bus driver from the Saint-Trond depot on Thursday evening.

Around 18:30, the driver disembarked from his bus upon finding an individual potentially injured from an accident, laying behind the vehicle.

The De Lijn employee was then assaulted by two other men, including the individual previously found lying on the ground, as he reported.

Subsequently, the driver managed to seek safety within his bus, from where he contacted emergency services.

Local police have launched an investigation, planning to analyse security camera footage and interview those involved.

The impacted lines are: 21, 22, 23, 38, 50, 217, 218, 219, 232, 233, 234, 235, 504, 505, 507 and 509.
