Unknown persons carried out an attack on an apartment building in the Antwerp district of Borgerhout on Sunday night, the local police confirmed.
Unlike previous attacks, the explosion did not take place on the street but inside a building against the front door of one of the flats.
The events took place around 03:30 on the Collegestraat, in the Borgerhout district just outside the Antwerp Ring Road. The perpetrators forced open the building's main front door, and then attacked inside, Belga News Agency reports.
"Unknown persons detonated an explosive or heavy fireworks in the corridor of the building in front of the entrance door of a flat," said Willem Migom of the Antwerp police.
There is significant damage in the corridor and on the front door of the targeted flat. There were no injuries.
The judicial lab and DOVO demining service came to the scene to make the necessary determinations. The police are investigating the case and checking whether there is a possible link with the drug environment.
