Belgian farmers are blocking access to Colruyt supermarkets in Hannut and Waremme, in the province of Liège.
They have posted themselves at the entrance gates since around 15:30 this afternoon, not allowing anyone to enter. “The protesters have declared that their action will continue until 20:00, which is our closing time,” clarified a local store official.
Over recent weeks, farmers have stepped up protests throughout Belgium and across Europe to voice their dissatisfaction with the EU’s agricultural policies.
Primary sites of distribution for supermarket chains have been particularly targeted causing supply issues in the stores.
