Two tourists cycling in Ghent were killed on Sunday following a collision with a car, East Flanders prosecutor’s office reports.
The victims were part of a group that was struck by the car whilst cycling on a bike lane.
The incident occurred around 11 am. According to the prosecutor, the driver crashed into the group of cyclists who were on the designated bike lane.
Two men born in 1978 lost their lives due to the collision. The remaining three cyclists from the group are injured, one of them severely, the police has stated.
The car driver underwent a breathalyser test, which proved positive. He has been arrested and may be brought before an investigative judge.
