From September, almost no Belgian postal worker will leave physical notices in mailboxes for absent packet recipients.
Bpost, the Belgian postal company, implemented this new digital notification system after a successful test phase. The company made an announcement on Tuesday that they have decided to expand this project nationally.
Typically, Bpost has access to customers' email addresses when an order is placed. If this isn't available, a paper notification will still be left for registered or personal mail deliveries.
According to the company, this new measure will be introduced in phases until September, reducing Bpost's paper consumption by a whopping 97%.
