Dutch gym chain Basic-Fit saw increased subscription sales and higher rates last year, despite a decline in demand in France. The company reported a membership surge of 13%, resulting in 3.8 million members.

The average monthly fee per user also rose to €23.53, up from €22.68 in 2022. This year, Basic-Fit anticipates an increase to at least €24.50.

The fitness brand's turnover surpassed €1 billion while operating profit saw substantial increases. Ultimately, Basic-Fit successfully reduced its net loss from €3.7 million to €2.7 million.

The company boasts over 1,400 fitness rooms across the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain and Germany. In Belgium, Basic-Fit opened its doors in 2013. The company reported 223 locations at the end of 2023, an increase of four from the previous year. 27 clubs are available in the Belgian capital alone.

By comparison, Jims, the second leader of the fitness industry in Belgium, owns just over 30 gyms across the country. Basic-Fit remains the most popular fitness company in Belgium and Europe, especially among young people. Indeed, almost half of the members are under the age of 30.
