The Council of Ministers approved on Friday a draft royal decree that will compensate Infrabel and SNCB, Belgium's national rail operator, for the sharp rise in energy prices and wage costs, announced Mobility Minister Georges Gilkinet in a press release.

The payment will allow the two companies to maintain operations and balance finances in the face of rapidly rising costs. The total sum will see SNCB receive €64.6 million and €17.4 million allocated to Infrabel, which manages national infrastructure.

The proposed compensation mechanism applies for the first six months of 2022.
