As autumn approaches, the Brussels Region is urging its residents to get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19.

The Covid-19 vaccination is already available at the doctor's office, in certain pharmacies. The flu vaccination will be available from 15 October, announced Vivalis, the administration in charge of health and assistance to people in Brussels.

The aim is to expand vaccination coverage to protect vulnerable people during the colder months when respiratory infections are more common. This also helps to alleviate the strain on the healthcare system, which is more burdened in winter.

Both vaccines are particularly recommended for people over 64, immunocompromised children or those with severe chronic illnesses, long-term residents of care facilities, overweight individuals, and all healthcare workers. These target groups are urged to get vaccinated against Covid-19 now and against the flu from mid-October.

It is also possible to get vaccinated against both illnesses simultaneously. The recommended period for dual vaccination is from 15 October to 1 November. Citizens can contact their doctor or pharmacist for this option.

For pregnant women, the Superior Health Council advises getting the flu vaccine, but recommends the COVID-19 vaccine only in cases of increased risk and with medical advice.

The coronavirus vaccine is free. The flu vaccine costs €17.42, except for those over 49 and high-risk groups. For these groups, it is heavily subsidised, costing between €2.45 and €4.08.
