The City of Brussels has introduced a new bicycle grant for youths aged 16 to 18 to encourage their independence and help them get back on their bikes.
This grant offers up to €300 for the purchase of a bicycle and safety equipment, covering 30% of the cost for all young Brussels residents and up to 60% for those whose parents hold BIM status.
It can also be applied to the maintenance and repair of an existing bike, with 100% coverage up to €120, as well as the purchase of bike parts for self-repair (100% coverage up to €50) and safety equipment (30% coverage up to €300, or 60% if parents have BIM status).
To qualify for this grant, the bicycle must be registered with an identification sticker at the time of the application. The applicant must also hold a cycling proficiency certificate or be enrolled in a cycling training course.
To support this initiative, the Brussels Capital Ixelles police zone and the Bravvo non-profit organisation (the City’s prevention service) are organising a two-hour training session. This session includes a theoretical part, practical cycling exercises, and an urban cycling course, which qualifies participants for the grant.
