Two people were injured in a shooting in Schaerbeek on Saturday night. One of the victims is in critical condition, the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Sunday.
Police officers from the Brussels North police zone covering Schaerbeek, Evere and Saint-Josse-ten-Node, were called to Place du Pavillon in Schaerbeek, located between the Collignon and Brabant districts, around 23:30 on Saturday night. Sounds of gunfire had been reported, spokesperson Stefan Vandevelde said.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two people who had both suffered gunshot wounds. The emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene of the crime, and the victims were transported to the hospital for medical care. Vandevelde confirmed that one of the victims was in a life-threatening condition.
Police established a security zone to preserve all evidence relevant to the investigation, and the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office attended the scene.
"Initial investigative actions have been ordered, including an analysis of CCTV footage, involvement of the federal police laboratory, and the dispatch of a ballistic expert and forensic doctor," he said.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has declined to comment further at this stage of the investigation.
