Shots were fired next to Brussels-Midi station on Thursday morning, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed. No one was injured in the incident.

Police were called to the junction between Rue Bara and Rue des Vétérinaires in Anderlecht at around 05:50 on Thursday morning. The initial call concerned a car accident, but police discovered that shots had been fired upon arriving at the scene.

The driver of one of the vehicles in the crash confirmed that a gunshot had been fired. However, no one was injured.

One person was arrested but has since been released. The Federal Criminal Investigation Department's crime lab searched the scene for shell casing with the assistance of an explosives dog. The Federal Police helicopter also provided support.

The incident appears to have been a hit-and-run but the investigation is ongoing, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office. It has also been discovered that the fire was shot from a lead revolver.

The Public Prosecutor added that it would not provide any more information.
