The Brussels Fire Brigade has warned citizens of individuals imitating firefighters and selling door-to-door or asking for Christmas gifts. The brigade has reminded people to remain vigilant.

"The Brussels Fire Brigade would like to inform the public that, at the end of the year, malicious individuals are posing as firefighters to sell calendars or ask for Christmas gifts door-to-door," said fire brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw.

"We would remind you that the Brussels fire brigade never carries out this type of operation. These fraudulent practices aim to exploit the generosity of citizens by abusing the trust they place in the emergency services."

Derieuw urged Brussels residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the local authorities or police. "If you have been confronted with this type of solicitation, we encourage you to note down as much information as possible (description of persons, vehicle, etc.) to help identify the perpetrators."

He added that people can contact the fire brigade directly via their official channels if they have any questions.
