A judicial investigation into child sexual abuse at the crèche of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) has been launched, the institution confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
The investigation involves a former childcare worker at the Solbosch crèche and her ex-partner. Both have been detained.
The ULB was informed by the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office about sexual assaults committed on children at the Solbosch crèche between October 2020 and October 2022.
Since the investigation is ongoing, the university does not have further information at this time. The institution, "which is fully cooperating with the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office, the investigating judge, and the police investigators to ensure full clarity," has decided to become a civil party in the case.
"The affected families have been informed, and psychological and legal support is being provided to them," the ULB stated in the communiqué.
A support centre will be open from Thursday at 09:30. A helpline is also available from 06:00 to 22:00.
