Passengers in Brussels Central station will receive free flowers from 15:00 on Friday, as florists in training will be handing out their freshly made floral arrangements.

The flowers will be distributed in light of the 'National day of action for the profession of Florist'. Organised by BeFloris, the day aims to draw attention to the shortage of new florists and encourage young people to discover the sector.

"Being a florist is much more than just putting together bouquets. It is a profession in which creativity, craftsmanship and a passion for flowers come together," the organisation said. "The training to become a florist offers extensive knowledge about flower cultivation, arrangements and the latest trends in the sector."

From 09:00, all florist students and teachers gathered at Euroveiling in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek to create a joint flower arrangement project.

A ceremony took place at 11:00, and from 15:00 the participants will be distributing their floral arrangements to passers-by at Brussels Central station.
