Due to a technical failure with the ‘eGates’ border control system across Europe, long queues have formed at Brussels Airport on Saturday morning.
Waiting times have reached up to an hour and a half.
According to the Brussels Airport spokesperson, the peak of passengers occurred earlier in the morning. The situation is gradually improving.
Passengers are being informed about the eGate closures via screens. It is unclear when the issue will be resolved. The malfunction affects not only Brussels Airport but also other European airports.
The eGates are automated border control checkpoints that normally speed up the border crossing process.
