The City of Brussels is inviting residents to what they call a "board meeting," giving Belgians and expats alike the opportunity to discuss their neighbourhood priorities directly with local elected officials.

Starting on Thursday 24 April, a meeting will take place every one or two weeks, at a different area in the City of Brussels (Brussels 1000). No meetings are scheduled over the summer holidays, but they will continue in September.

“This series of meetings across all ten districts of our city offers Brussels’ residents their first opportunity to meet and engage with the new city college,” Frederik Ceulemans (Open VLD), Brussels City councillor for Participation, told The Brussels Times.

“For us, as members of the new college, this is the ideal opportunity to present the city’s plans for each district and, most importantly, to foster connection, discussion, and feedback,” he said. “Through these meetings, we emphasise our new participation policy, working together to build a sustainable city for all Brussels citizens.”

During the meetings, Mayor Philippe Close (PS) and the councillors will present the municipality's 2024-2030 majority agreement, following the municipal elections in October last year.

The first meeting takes place at 19:00 on Thursday 24 April in Haren. While formerly a separate municipality in the north of the Capital Region, it was merged into the City of Brussels in 1921. The meeting will take place in GC De Linde, Rue de Cortenbach 7. People can submit their questions to the elected officials online in advance, via this form.

The next meetings will take place in Neder-Over-Heembeek on 13 May, Laeken-North on 20 May, the European district on 27 May and Laeken-South on 3 June, the Northern Quarter on 12 June and in the Dansaert–Anneessens neighbourhood on 19 June.

After the summer, meetings will be held in the Martyr–Notre-Dame-aux-Neiges area on 9 September, the Marolles district on 25 September and in the Louise-Sablon area on 7 October.
