The Wallonia-Brussels Federation will launch an online survey this week, with the aim of objectifying harassment, violence and discrimination in higher education institutions and the way such phenomena are monitored.
The survey, covering 41 establishments, will be available from 15 February to 30 April. All students and staff of higher education institutions are invited to participate, the office of Higher Education Minister Valérie Glatigny announced on Monday.
The online survey is managed by the Adaptation, Resilience and Change (ARCh) research unit at the University of Liège. It is just one element of a larger study launched at the end of last year, titled ‘Bien-être Harcèlement et Violences en Enseignement Supérieur’ (Behaves).
This study, the results of which are expected by the end of 2023, focuses on all forms of harassment, discrimination and violence, whether online or on campus, targeting students or staff, for whatever reason.
The data from the online survey will be further investigated through a more qualitative approach, with student focus groups and consultation with experts and key stakeholders in higher education.
This should help to guide policies to prevent and combat harassment and discrimination in higher education.
