Police have identified the man killed in a hit-and-run in Brussels but are still trying to locate the suspect, whose vehicle was found abandoned by a road to the north of the city, according to reports on Monday.
The victim of the hit-and-run was a 21-year-old Romanian national, police told Belgian media, adding that the man's family had been notified.
The victim died on the spot after he was hit by a vehicle in the early hours of Sunday in Brussels’ Boulevard du Jardin Botanique, near Place Rogier.
After reviewing security surveillance footage, police on Sunday were able to find the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
The driver abandoned the vehicle by Avenue de l’Héliport, in the vicinity of Gare du Nord, police said, after they matched the licence plate numbers in the footage to those on the vehicle found.
At this stage, police are still trying to locate the suspect but said they cannot reveal information regarding the suspect's identity.
