The Brussels Fire Brigade cordoned off and ventilated toilets in Central Station on Wednesday evening due to an odour that affected five individuals. The measures have since been lifted but the source of the odour remains unknown.
An area of 25 metres was closed off for several hours on Wednesday evening, as were one station entrance and several ticket booths. Two cleaners and three police officers had a reaction to the smell and received treatment on-site but were not hospitalised.
The Fire Brigade is now awaiting test results to determine whether or not it is necessary to return to the site.
"Depending on the results of the Civil Protection analysis, the fire brigade will return to ventilate the affected premises," said spokesperson Walter Derieuw.
