Around 83,000 passengers are expected to pass through Brussels Airport on Friday. This marks the start of what the airport predicts to be a busy summer.
The high influx on Friday is due to the start of the Dutch-speaking school holidays, according to a press release. For the same reason, this weekend is expected to be significantly busier than usual, with 75,000 and 79,000 passengers expected on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Meanwhile, French-speaking schools in Belgium will start their summer holiday a week later, making Friday 5 July equally busy, with almost 80,000 passengers expected.
The airport has implemented multiple measures to keep operations running smoothly. Additional staff will be on hand to assist passengers at terminals, and new automated gates will be available at border control.
The Airport App has also been redesigned, offering passengers real-time flight updates. In addition, the airport recommends that passengers travelling to the airport by car reserve a parking spot in advance.
Over the next two months, Brussels Airport expects to see over five million passengers pass through its doors, marking a 6% increase compared to last year.
