A 24-year-old man has been held by the police since 30 August for his suspected involvement in the home invasion in the Brussels municipality of Ixelles that resulted in the death of a French man (57).

The invasion occurred early on 29 August morning at around 04:00 on Rue Gachard, near Avenue Louise in Ixelles. One or more perpetrators entered a family home and shots were fired inside, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed at the time.

A man (57) was shot dead, while a woman (57) and a young man (22) – all French nationals – were injured. Both were taken to hospital, but their lives are not in danger.

The 22-year-old had reportedly arranged to meet one of the men via a popular dating app. Once in the apartment, it became clear that the resident had been lured into a trap by criminals who looked for victims on the app.

While initially there was no trace of the perpetrator(s), the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Tuesday evening that a suspect – a 24-year-old man – has been in jail since 30 August.

The Prosecutor's Office will not comment further on the suspect's arrest in the interest of the ongoing investigation for the time being.
