Public transport in the Brussels-Capital Region will be "significantly disrupted" on Monday 16 September due to an action by the joint union front in support of workers at the Audi factory in Forest.

The unions at STIB are inviting their members to take part in the union action on Monday, to denounce the job losses in the industrial sector in Belgium.

"Major disruptions are expected on the metro, tram and bus networks due to the participation of STIB staff in this action and the passage of the demonstration along the route of several lines," the public transport operator announced in a press release.

As the extent of the disruptions cannot yet be predicted, STIB is advising travellers to provide alternative solutions for their travel in Brussels next Monday to the extent possible. "We will make every effort to ensure at least part of the service, and to inform passengers in real time about the situation on the network."

As soon as there is additional information, STIB will update passengers via its website, social media channels, the STIB application and the waiting time indicators at stops and in stations.

National railway operator SNCB's services will not be significantly impacted by the national day of action. "The trains might be a bit fuller, but we are not expecting any strike-related disruptions on Monday," a spokesperson told The Brussels Times.

At the Flemish and Walloon bus operators De Lijn and TEC, respectively, staff will not participate in the actions.
