A cocaine laboratory was discovered after the Brussels-Capital Ixelles police zone raided an apartment in Anderlecht on 22 September.

Procaine, a dental anaesthetic, had been used to cut the drug. Two suspects, who were irregular migrants in Belgium, were arrested along with a third person shortly after.

Police found a large quantity of equipment used to adulterate the cocaine, including 100 kg of procaine.

"According to our police zone, this is the first drug laboratory dismantled in our country using procaine," the local police stated.

The two apprehended suspects were subjected to arrest warrants. A third person, also arrested later, has been charged with drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organisation.

Two days earlier, on 20 September, the same police zone seized nearly 50 kg of cocaine in central Brussels, with an estimated market value of €1.8 million.

Two suspects were arrested with a large sports bag containing 45 packets of cocaine, each weighing 1.1 kg, and were placed under arrest warrants.
