One homeless person was stabbed to death in Brussels city centre last night. The suspected perpetrator has not yet been identified or arrested.

"On Saturday 19 October 2024 at around 23:55, a fight broke out between two homeless men in the Rue de l'Ecuyer in Brussels," said Public Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Martin François.

"According to the initial investigation, one of the two men was stabbed several times during the fight. The victim died on the spot despite first aid from passersby and the paramedics."

A police perimeter was immediately set up, and the Public Prosecutor's Office ordered CCTV and forensic investigations. An investigating judge was also appointed and visited the scene.

"The investigation will be conducted by the homicide department of the federal police," François explained. "The investigation is continuing to determine the circumstances of these events and to identify and locate the suspect."

"In the interest of the investigation, the Brussels public prosecutor's office will not comment further."
