A Brussels court has decided to extend the detentions of two suspects in the murder of a Singaporean student that took place in the city centre on 7 November.

The 25-year-old Singaporean student died on 7 November after being fatally stabbed in the abdomen. The attack took place late at night at 2.30 am on Rue Saint-Pierre in Brussels’ city centre.

Two 18-year-old suspects were quickly arrested in house searches and charged with murder.

Initial investigations suggest the victim, who was with two female friends, was harassed by the suspects.

They first asked him for a cigarette and then demanded he gives them his mobile phone. When he refused, one of the suspects stabbed the student in the abdomen.

The victim’s friends immediately called emergency services, while the suspects fled the scene.

A police patrol provided first aid until emergency responders arrived. They transported the critically injured student to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
