An envelope containing a suspicious white powder arrived at the Interior Ministry in Brussels on Monday morning. This is the fourth recorded case of an envelope containing white powder delivered to official government buildings in recent weeks.

Fire brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw confirmed that the Interior Ministry had received an envelope containing an unknown substance on Monday morning. "Three people are in isolation and Civil Protection is on its way," he said. "The isolated people have no symptoms."

This is the fourth such case in recent weeks. In late November, two such envelopes were delivered on the same day: one to the Interior Minister's Office and another to Belgium's State Security offices.

Two days later, a third was sent to the Prime Minister's Office. One person was hospitalised but did not appear to have been contaminated.

It is not yet clear whether there is a connection between the incidents, nor is it known what was in the letters. According to sources close to the investigation, at least one envelope contained rat poison.

The Brussels Times has contacted the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office for more information but has not yet received a response.
