A suspicious letter containing powder was found on Tuesday afternoon in a post office on Lakensestraat, in the centre of Brussels.
The discovery was reported by several media outlets and confirmed by the Brussels Fire Brigade.
The fire service was alerted around 5 p.m. and rushed to the post office near the Brucity building, close to De Brouckèreplein. Police established a security perimeter, and ten people were isolated in a separate room inside the post office.
None of the individuals showed symptoms of exposure to a hazardous substance.
“One person was hyperventilating but was treated on site,” Fire Brigade Spokesperson Walter Derieuw said. “No one was hospitalised.”
The Brasschaat Civil Protection unit arrived on the scene to collect the suspicious letter for analysis.
