The Council of the French Community Commission (COCOF) has approved a second instalment of provisional twelfths budget to ensure the functioning of services dependent on COCOF in Brussels until August.
The Assembly of the French Community Commission, the Brussels French-speaking Parliament, is made up of the 72 members of the French-speaking group in the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region. The COCOF takes initiatives in the Brussels-Capital Region with regard to culture, education, well-being and health.
Unlike the Brussels Region, which approves provisional twelfths every three months, the French Community Commission does so every four months. These provisional measures are necessary in the absence of a fully functioning government.
The outgoing parties, PS, Ecolo, DéFI, and Les Engagés, granted their approval, while MR and PTB abstained for different reasons.
Barbara Trachte, the outgoing Minister-President of COCOF (Ecolo), stated that the total sum from January to August 2025 amounts to approximately 75 to 76% of the 2024 budget. This exceeds 66%, equivalent to eight twelfths, of the 2024 budget.
The overrun is partly due to the indexing of salaries for COCOF and school staff. Additionally, subsidies for organisations, which are also indexed, contribute to the excess.
