Two people were injured in a shooting in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to the Brussels-Midi police zone. Two people were arrested in connection to the incident.
The shots were fired at around 02:30 near Rue de la Clinique, not far from Clemenceau – where a spate of shootings occurred earlier this year.
One person was injured in the leg and the other in the shoulder. The person who was shot in the shoulder is in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.
Two people were arrested, according to the Anderlecht mayor Fabrice Cumps (PS), confirming an earlier report by BRUZZ.
A federal police unit was present in the neighbourhood during the shooting, according to Cumps. The mayor added that the presence of the authorities helped in making the arrests.
However, according to Cumps, violence in the municipality has not yet subsided and the assistance of the federal police remains important. Cumps will ask Minister of the Interior Bernard Quintin (MR) to extend federal police assistance in Anderlecht.
