Three burglaries in a single week on Avenue des Meuniers in the Brussels neighbourhood of Auderghem have left residents on edge.

They’ve since formed a neighbourhood committee and are keeping watch over the streets, reports Bruzz.

“We left from 18:00 to 23:30. When we came back, we saw that there was a break-in,” one resident, whose home was burglarised, told La Capitale.

“The neighbour on the right was burgled on the same day as us and the neighbour on the left was burgled on Sunday,” she said. “A gang sneaks around and keeps an eye on us. They have our street in their sights.”

A spokesperson for the Marlow police zone (which includes Uccle, Watermael-Boitsfort, Auderghem) denied that the neighbourhood is being targeted in particular.

“Other people have also been burgled, but we cannot reasonably speak of a wave in a certain neighbourhood,” the spokesperson said, citing the winter season as a possible explanation.

“There are more burglaries then anyway. The days are shorter, it’s dark longer.”

Unsatisfied, the local residents have decided to take matters into their own hands. They communicate with each other via a WhatsApp group and closely monitor the street.
