In the second quarter of this year, police in the centre of Brussels revoked a total of 204 driving licences from people who had been drinking or taking drugs before getting behind the wheel.
The Brussels Ixelles police zone announced on Tuesday that officers revoked no fewer than 138 driving licences from drivers who had drunk too much, and another 66 driving licences were withdrawn for drug-impaired driving.
Some revocations were the result of a total of 12,509 routine breath tests that were carried out during several actions by the Directorate of Traffic and the police zone. During these actions, 201 drivers tested positive and another 142 raised the alarm due to reckless behaviour when driving.
As a result of this, 33 driving licences were taken away by the police as a result of the person being under the influence of alcohol while driving, while another 20 driving licences were confiscated due to drug-impaired driving.

The other revocations were made following breathing tests that were carried out as a result of an accident or other interventions by the police, during which another 370 drivers tested positive and 120 drivers sounded the alarm.
This resulted in another 105 driving licences being withdrawn for a period of 15 days for going behind the wheel after drinking, while 46 drivers lost theirs related to drug use.
