The Brussels commune of Schaerbeek is known for going the extra mile when it comes to wedding ceremonies. This year on the occasion of Valentine's Day, it will open its wedding hall to a lucky few to get married here for free.
From conducting weddings in English and recording ceremonies in 360° to organising weddings with live music on request, Schaerbeek is used to making weddings extra special. This Valentine's Day, Schaerbeek is pulling out all the stops for a select few couples with a unique wedding offer.
"Normally, we only conduct wedding ceremonies on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This year, Valentine's Day falls on a Tuesday. On that day, we will make an exception and open our wedding hall in the afternoon for couples who want to get married on the special occasion," authorised councillor Quentin van den Hove told The Brussels Times.
The municipality will let the selected couples — the first five couples who register via the civil registry service or via the e-mail address burgerlijkestand@1030.be — marry for free on 14 February, and will arrange an extra special wedding ceremony for the lovebirds.
"I won't fully reveal what exactly we will be providing, but I can say we are going to decorate the majestic stairwell in the theme of love so we can shower the couples in flowers — or hearts."

Of course, the promotion only applies to couples living in Schaerbeek and who are registered with the commune.
As is the case with all marriages in the municipality, the couple must file a declaration of marriage with the civil registry department at least 15 days before the ceremony. If one of the partners is not registered in Belgium, the marriage declaration must be filed at least 30 days in advance.
