A tram derailed in the Brussels municipality of Berchem-Sainte-Agathe after colliding with a truck on Friday morning, said spokesperson for the Brussels fire brigade, Walter Derieux.
The incident occurred on Avenue du Roi Albert at around 11:25 when a STIB line 19 tram hit a truck that was attempting to cross the tracks. The truck flipped and ended up on its side, while the tram was forced off the tracks.
“The driver came out of his cab unscathed, as did the tram driver,” Derieux said. Despite this, two tram passengers were lightly injured and transferred to the hospital. Firefighters were quick to respond to the scene. Officers from the Brussels-West police zone carried out an initial investigation at the scene of the accident.
