The Heysel Plateau will host the traditional Brussels City fireworks display and festivities from 10.30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 1.00 a.m. on New Year’s Day, celebrating, at the same time, the 60th anniversary of the Atomium and Expo 58. Some 50,000 persons are expected to attend the event, which will include an air show, DJ and light projection.
The festivities kick off at 10.30 p.m. with a DJ belting out dance music for the crowd while light projections highlight the majestic architecture of the Palais 5. The Theatre Tol group from Anvers will then treat spectators to a modern opera in light. ‘Garden of Angels’ is a show composed of fairy-tale characters (angels, musicians, dancers, etc.)
Security arrangements will be put in place to make sure that the festivities are held in the best possible conditions.
From 8.30 p.m., the site of the event will be closed to the public for organizational reasons.
To facilitate the work of the security services, the City of Brussels advises the public to avoid back packs on that evening. Glass bottles are prohibited, as well as the use of firecrackers and fireworks, as stated in the general police regulations.
The organisers recommend that visitors use public transport, which will be free from midnight.
