The second edition of StrEat Fest, a festival dedicated to street food and urban art, brought together just over 12,000 people from 11 to 14 May on the Tour & Taxis site in Brussels.
Nearly 75 chefs offered their "accessible, fast and fun" creations, with 30,000 dishes tasted over the four days of the event.
According to Terry Vermandel, director of Tatou Production, StrEat Fest offers "a complete experience that combines quality culinary offerings at an affordable price, participatory workshops, immersive activities, concerts, and more."
This combination appeals to the public, who are constantly looking for new experiences, the director said.
Amongst others, the chef ambassador of this edition, Glen Ramaekers, from renowned Brussels restaurant Humphrey was present.
Other guests included Kevin Lejeune (La Canne en ville), Alexandru Sapco (La bonne chère), the king of shrimp croquettes Cédrix Mosbeux (Fernand Obb Delicatessen), Stefan Jacobs (Hors Champs in Gembloux), Simona El-Harar (Kitchen 151), Broes Tavernier (Vijfde Seizoen), Nathan Urbanowiez (Sanzaru), pastry chef Anaïs Gaudemer (Cokoa), and double Michelin starred Dutch chef Soenil Bahadoer.
The 5,000-square-metre hangar was also the venue for more than 150 concerts, DJ sets, workshops, cookery courses, as well as artistic and sporting initiations.
The food festival also offered a market with producers, market gardeners and craftsmen committed to "Made in Belgium."
The organisers have already announced that a third edition will be held next year, from 16 to 19 May 2024, again in Tour & Taxis.
