Brussels Electronic Marathon: 3 days dedicated to electronic music in the capital

The third Brussels Electronic Marathon (BEM18) will take place from October 12th to October 14th, in several unanticipated locations within the capital. The festival is intended to pay homage to both electronic music but also the Brussels region.

Concerts and other activities are being split across three geographical axes: the Canal District, the city centre and Flagey. In total, 60 events are anticipated, with the participation of more than 200 artists. Amongst the out-of-the-ordinary locations this year are the Porte de Hal (the second set of medieval gates in Brussels), the Bains de Bruxelles-Ville (the swimming pool) and even the Tour à Plombs (Lead Tower) in Place Sainte-Catherine.

No major names are popping up, but finds and collaborations between several collective groups, as well as renowned nightclubs, such as the Fuse and C12. Audio-visual installations are also expected at LaVallée, the Palais Coudenberg Museum and in the Kanal Centre Pompidou.

Brice Deloose, the Programme Planner, explains, “Electronic music has existed for 40 years, but it is not only techno music. The idea is to eradicate these stereotypes. Brussels abounds in talent, and this is what we wish to showcase with 100% Belgian artists.”

Practical information about the event can be consulted on the site www.bem.brussels.
