A building of the Titeca Hospital in Schaerbeek was evacuated on Monday morning after a fire broke out. There are no reported injuries.
The Brussels Fire Brigade was notified of the fire at the hospital on Rue de la Luzerne at about 10:20 on Monday morning. It immediately sent out three fire engines, two ladder trucks, five ambulances, three mobile medical teams and two command vehicles to the scene.
"As a precautionary measure, the medical intervention plan has been activated," said fire service spokesperson Walter Derieuw.
The fire was found to be raging in one room of the hospital, and while it was limited to this room, it caused a thick cloud of smoke which caused the entire building to be completely evacuated. Around 60 patients were taken out of the building and transferred to the institute's sports hall.
Derieuw applauded the response from healthcare providers. "After evacuating the patient, the door of the room was closed and a smooth evacuation was set up," he noted. Everyone can return to their rooms.
By 10:40, the fire was under control and ventilation was in progress. Derieuw confirmed no people had been injured during the fire.
