Rising cybercrime, artificial intelligence and geopolitical tensions are key concerns for Belgian business leaders and workers, according to an annual survey by the Federation of Belgian Enterprises (FEB) and insurance group Ageas.

Similarly to the last two years, the TrendWatch 2024 survey, revealed that cybersecurity remained a top concern for business managers. Additionally, geopolitical instability which impacts international relations, as well as the rise in artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, were also deemed significant issues.

The FEB and Ageas highlighted the differences between the concerns of workers compared to business executives or leaders. While cybersecurity was rated as important for both, workers were more concerned with issues that impacted their personal lives, such as high energy prices and inflation.

The two organisations pointed to a trend of an increasing focus on work-life balance, which they attribute to the rise of hybrid working model in the country. Moreover, the study revealed a rise in general concerns over environmental issues.

The annual study was conducted by the FEB and the Ageas. It included data from 722 business leaders in Belgium, and a representative sample of 1,300 Belgian workers. It asked participants to rate a series of 148 pre-selected trends based on their impact.
