Dow, a US chemical corporation with operations in Belgium, announced on Thursday that it will cut 1,500 jobs globally with the aim of saving $1 billion in costs.

CEO Jim Fitterling stated in a press release that the decision was difficult, but necessary to proactively manage costs amid slower-than-expected economic recovery.

The press release did not specify where the job cuts would occur. However, according to Reuters, Europe and Asia will likely be most affected. Dow employs around 36,000 people globally and achieved a turnover of approximately $43 billion in 2024.

In early 2023, Dow had already announced a restructuring that involved cutting around 2,000 jobs, mostly in Europe.

According to its corporate website, Dow has been active in the Benelux region since 1955.

The company employs around 4,000 people across eight major locations in the region: Terneuzen, Delfzijl, and Dordrecht, in the Netherlands, and Antwerp, Brussels, Tertre, Zwijndrecht, and Seneffe, in the Netherlands.

Terneuzen is Dow’s second largest production site worldwide.
