Belgian semiconductor producer Melexis announced a collaboration with a Chinese semiconductor manufacturer on Wednesday.

The goal is to assemble fully finished products in China for the local market starting in 2026.

For several years, Melexis has outsourced parts of its chip manufacturing process to China, including assembly and testing. In 2024, the company signed partnerships with local firms for this purpose.

Now, the company is taking a step further. "The idea is to find the best possible solutions for Chinese customers," said Communications Director, Tom Meynendonckx.

Research and development will remain in Europe, but end-to-end manufacturing for Chinese clients will be transferred to Asian partners. Additionally, a larger office was opened in Shanghai in March this year for sales, marketing and technical support.

It is no surprise that Melexis continues to focus on China. The Asian region accounts for 60% of the company's global sales, with nearly half of this in China.

Melexis chips are mainly used in the automotive, healthcare and robotics sectors.
