Employees working at companies that made significant profits last year can receive a bonus of up to €750 from 1 June onwards.
The premium was ratified in parliament on Wednesday after having been approved by the Federal Government in late March, who is hoping that the measure will protect workers against the current cost of living crisis.
Employees working at companies having made high profits can receive a bonus of €500, while those employed at exceptionally profitable businesses can be granted an extra €750 on top of their regular salary.

The government had proposed this premium as a way of offsetting the lack of any wage rises in 2023 and 2024, outside of the automatic indexations. The Federal Minister for Social Affairs Frank Vandenbroucke praised it as a way of ensuring that “hard work pays off.”
However, these companies are not obliged to hand out these premiums to employees. Moreover, they will have to have been provided for in the collective labour agreement between company management and employees.
