“Around a hundred murders or kidnappings that could have ended badly” have been “avoided” thanks to the infiltration and subsequent dismantling of EncroChat, Europol announced on Tuesday.
The global encrypted communications network, used by organised crime, was dismantled in 2020.
“Specialised networks were detected” from which other networks ordered “assassinations, kidnappings, torture,” Jean-Philippe Lecouffe, deputy executive director of the European police cooperation agency, said at a press conference in Lille, France.
