US company Avery Dennison on Wednesday inaugurated a thermodynamic solar power plant at its site in Turnhout, Antwerp Province.
The installation, the largest of its kind on an industrial site in Europe, captures the sun’s rays via a set of mirrors that heat a fluid, producing electricity.
The facility comprises 2,240 mirrors with a peak power of 2.7 GWh and six thermal storage modules with a capacity of 5 MWh.
The entire installation is expected to provide heat equivalent to 2.3 GWh of gas consumption, which is expected to reduce the company’s emissions by 9%.
Avery Dennison produces, among other things, labels and adhesive tapes for a variety of industrial applications.
