Belgium's Euronav sells world's second largest oil tanker

Belgian shipping firm Euronav has sold the world’s second-largest oil tanker, the Oceania, industry specialist TradeWinds reported on Thursday.

Euronav has declined to comment on the reported sale of the giant tanker, which can be used as a storage ship.

According to TradeWinds, which said it obtained its information from US and Greek brokers, the new owners of the tanker are Chinese entities.

Euronav CEO Alexander Saverys has reportedly given his approval for the sale, according to the sources.

The Belgian shipping company is holding a special shareholders’ meeting on Friday. This is understood to relate primarily to some legal hurdles surrounding a recent merger with CMB.TECH.

Euronav and CMB "plan to complete the transaction in February 2024,” the shipping firm outlined in a statement.
