A man was injured after falling into an elevator shaft at a construction site in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, the Brussels Fire Brigade reported on Thursday.
At around 08:25, medical emergency services and the Brussels Fire Brigade were called to a construction site in Rue Gineste.
One of the workers had fallen from the 5th floor through a wooden safety floor. His fall was stopped around 6 meters below by another safety floor.
"The wooden floor was very unstable and could give way at any moment," noted the Fire Brigade spokesperson, Walter Derieuw.

The rescue team used mountaineering equipment and techniques to reach the worker. The rescue operation, which Derieuw called "very delicate and meticulous," was concluded around 10:00.
The construction worker was conscious the entire time. He received immediate medical care from the on-site medical team. There are concerns about possible internal injuries.
The circumstances behind the work accident are yet to be determined.
