The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is stepping up its search for thousands of new workers and has launched a new website dedicated to recruitment.
The recently merged Port of Antwerp-Bruges has long lacked a central point where all jobs were advertised. The new online platform will list all vacancies for both the Antwerp and Zeebrugge sites for the ease of job seekers.
So far, slightly more than 1,750 vacancies in a total of 16 sectors working in the port area have been posted since the site's launch on Wednesday. It is estimated that all port companies together (amounting to more than 1,400) are looking for some 7,000 workers.
From admin to stevedores
From shipping companies transporting the goods and dock workers loading the goods onto land to logistics companies storing those goods in adapted warehouses and controls carried out by customs administration, the list of different jobs is extensive.
"There is a need for numerous ICT staff, accountants, technically skilled personnel, process operators, administrative and commercial talent and much more," the port noted.
Filters can be used to sort through the many jobs, such as location, job domain and type of work contract. Applications are then made directly to the relevant company or employment agency via the website, for which the port authority is working together with Flemish employment agency VDAB and employers' organisation Voka, among others.
It is also working with fictional drawings featuring port giants to attract the attention of young people, jobseekers and lateral entrants, who will also be targeted in the streets and on social media in the coming months.
