Netflix has expanded its use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The streaming service is testing a new search technology that allows subscribers to find TV series and films using more specific search terms, including moods. The system then recommends options from Netflix’s offerings.
Based on OpenAI, the search engine enables customers to ask questions that go beyond genres or actor names. This provides an alternative to the current search capabilities. Initially, the tool is available exclusively on iOS devices for some customers in Australia and New Zealand.
Netflix announced that the test will soon be expanded to other markets. Usually, Netflix rolls out new features directly to customers, but in this case, subscribers must opt to test the search function. The company has long utilised AI and machine learning, such as for developing the algorithm that recommends new series and films to viewers.
