Low voter turnout has been a problem in the elections to the European Parliament, especially among EU citizens living and working in a member state outside of their home country. A recent initiative aims at increasing the turnout among expats and show the resilience of European democracy despite the erosion of democratic norms and the rule of law in some EU member states.
