Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to attend political discussions in Brussels this week.

His agenda reportedly includes signing a security collaboration agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, multiple European sources told DPA.

The agreement has been several months in the drafting. Although unconfirmed officially, Zelensky may also attend the summit meeting of EU’s 27 heads of State and Government this Thursday.

This agreement emerges from an initiative by the G7 group of Western economic powers. During the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania last year, it was agreed that individual states should establish bi-lateral agreements with Ukraine to secure its long-term safety.

The EU has followed suit, with countries such as the UK, Germany, and France signing in January and February. The US joined more recently.

These agreements encompass weapons supply, financial aid and political collaboration. They aim to bridge the gap until Ukraine can fulfil its aspiration of joining NATO.
