European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, has expressed a desire to extend his term at the European Commission.

The former Belgian Foreign Minister (MR) has communicated his decision to Georges-Louis Bouchez, the leader of his party, and to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

He referenced the extension of the term of Koen Lenaerts, a fellow Belgian and the President of the European Court of Justice. Similarly, a decision to extend Annemie Turtelboom, the Belgian representative to the European Court of Auditors, has already been made.

“We will be extending the term of office of the President of the European Court of Justice, Koen Lenaerts, who is Belgian. We’ve already decided to extend the Belgian representative at the European Court of Auditors, Annemie Turtelboom. Why not extend the Commissioner’s appointment too,” Reynders told RTL-TVi station. “In any case, I’m determined to continue working on the rule of law.”
